After 3 wins in a row in 2005, 2006 and 2007 with the current GT3 RS-models the direction for 2008 went towards a 997 Turbo 4WD for Marc Basseng to drive for the victory. Unfortunatelly for him and for the team he scored only 2nd.
As well the 2007 winner (997 GT3 RSC 4.0) should prove again its abilities but this time with an amateur driver, Thomas Neuert, winner of the 2007 Porsche Sports Cup. During practice Marc Basseng only once broke the 1.07min barrier and all competitors realized that for a win you would need a high 1.06. Temperatures raised and where others were operating with dry ice and cooling fans Marc Basseng took the provisional lead and achieved a 1.06.946 with 3 thousands of a second advantage to second place.

Due to the special intercoolers which are part of the RS-Tuning/Cargraphic powerkit 4 with 459KW/624PS and 826 Nm the Turbo was able to produce several laptimes under 1.07. Teamchief Kurt Ecke did a perfect setup for the Bilstein PSS10 suspensions to work with the Dunlop SPORTMAXX GT tires which also Thomas Neuert proved with a laptime of 1.09.251 taking 3rd place overall. In the end the four wheel drive Turbo was short of 135 thousands of a second to the winning GT2.
