Porsche Model 356 - this car embodies the sum of all the technical experience gained by Prof. Porsche and his cooperators. The saying goes that it looks like a racing car, it is so low, like a panther crouched to spring. There is a lot of truth in this opinion. It is an elegant and comfortable passenger car bearing the Porsche countenance that has remained fresh in the memory of auto racing fans the world over, for 20 years.

Porsche crest (logo) history

porsche_logoIn 1951 Porsche was finalizing plans for its move from the war time sanctuary of Gmund back to Stuttgart. Importers and agents selling his product made it clear that customers wanted some sort of trademark or badge to identify their vehicles, which till then, only carried the word "Porsche" on the body work. In 1952, Professor Porsche had devised the basic design of the crest. Folklore has it that he sketched it on a serviette during a luncheon. The crest first appeared on a Porsche in 1953, but was limited to the interior of the car – the horn button. It was not till 1957 that the crest joined the word Porsche on the front bonnet of a 356 Coupe.

Porsche 924 S

Porsche 924S is an updated version to the 924 model that Porsche manufactured from the 1986 to the year 1989. The manufacturing process of Porsche 924S didn’t last more than 3 years and the decreasing exchange rates plays a vital role behind putting such a full stop to it. The 924 Returns! The 924 was sold through 1988 in Europe, but left the USA in 1983 when the 944 replaced it.  However, by 1987 Porsche felt the need for another model to fill yet another price gap. The 944 Turbo was simply too powerful and had too much performance, and on the other end was the regular 944. The 944's performance was good, but its price was getting on up there. Porsche decided to bring back the 924, after a 5 year absence. It returned as the 924 S. This car had the unflared body and distinguishing round marker lights, but sported the 944's alloy wheels. It had the 944's 2.5 liter engine, and, due to the sleeker body, was faster than the 944. Of course, the 944 still had the looks.  In 1988 Porsche offered the largest number of product offerings with the 924S at the bottom of the price range.

1972_porsche_916Planned for the early 1970s, a version known as the Porsche 916 was cancelled after only eleven prototypes. The 916 was to have either the 2.4 engine from the 911S, or the 2.7 from the Carrera. They were also to have a fixed steel roof, wider wheels and flared fenders as styled from the 914-6 GT cars. Ventilated disc brakes were fitted to all four wheels, and also a "mid-engined" version of the then-new 915 transmission, giving a conventional shift pattern with 1 to 4 in an H and fifth out on a limb. One 916 was built to US specs and on delivery to the USA was fitted with air conditioning by the dealer.

porsche914.jpgBy the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry-level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range-topping sports coupe to replace the Karmann Ghia. At the time, the majority of Volkswagen's developmental work was handled by Porsche. New design 914 featured rear-mid boxer 4- and 6-cylinder engines - the 4-cyl motors were from VW and the original 914 were in fact built by Karmann. The original 914 1.7 had 76 hp, ran 0-62 mph in 13 secs and had a top speed of 109 mph.

porsche_901The 901 was Porsche's original name for the 911 and was named as such because it was the 901st Porsche design project. Model debuted at the Frankfurt auto show in 1963, and only 82 units was built as 901. Its name was changed to 911 because Peugeot had laid claim to all model designations with a "0" as the middle digit (now 306, 407 etc.) Thus, the 901 was never actually sold. The 901/911 marked the beginning of Porsche's committment to a 6-cylinder air-cooled rear engine framework.
